
Here are some red flags to recognizing depression in older adults
Feelings of hopelessness or helplessness
Feeling of sadness or of despair
Unsolved or exacerbated aches and pains
Loss of appetite and/or weight loss
Lack of interest in socializing or engaging in hobbies that you use to enjoy
Lack of motivation and low energy level
Sleep difficulties which may include difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, oversleeping, or fatigue
Decrease of self-worth (worries about being a burden, feelings of s or self-loathing)
Slowed movement or speech
Increased use of substances such as alcohol or other drugs
Thoughts of suicide of fixation on death
Memory problems
Neglecting self care such as personal hygiene, not taking medication
